Desire For Gold Engagement Rings Remains High
While gold has long been the standard for wedding bands, its use for gold engagement rings also continues to grow. As more couples want their rings to match, the gold bands for the husband and the wife can be turned into a complete set by having gold engagement rings as well. The precious metal has always lent a certain air of prosperity and despite the affordability of many of the modern rings on the market, they are still seen as a sign of everlasting love.
Typically, diamonds are set into gold engagement rings either in solitaire, or in tandem with two or more stones, and often with colored diamonds surrounding a single white diamond. The result can be spectacular in the contrast between the white diamond, colored diamonds or other gemstones, in a gold setting. Even a small diamond can be made to appear larger if placed into the right size and shaped setting.
Despite the fact that some people have an allergy to gold and choose silver, titanium or platinum in their band, the desire for gold engagement rings is growing each year. Many owners of gold rings will only own gold jewelry, whether pure or plated, so that all of their jewelry accessories match.
Paying King’s Ransom For Gold Jewelry
Other metals, such as platinum wear better and are more durable as well as cheaper than gold engagement rings, its use in wedding jewelry remains somewhat limited. Although popular among the Kings of England for the intricate designs cut into platinum, many Americans still prefer the prestige that comes with owning gold engagement rings.
Platinum became popular once techniques were found to make it more malleable and torches were developed with which to cut fancy designs into the rings, but the basic bands that usually come on gold engagement rings is still a favorite among young couples getting ready to wed.
It was the controlled of 70 percent of the world’s diamond industry, DeBeers that through advertising convince women that men had to pay about two-months salary for a diamond engagement ring while not stressing the type of metal making up the setting. However during this time in the late 1930’s gold engagement rings were very popular and the idea has survived over 70 years of history.
Additionally, jewelers dealing in gold have stressed the long-term investment in the precious metal, claiming that diamonds are forever and gold is a good forever investment.
